so yeah i got to do a portrait illustration of ‘yo la tengo’ for their new album titled “I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass” , and i have a lot of time in my hand. so i decided to do some sketches and work on portraits and concept.
and since i started writing this blog, i have been working on my sketches and trying to take them to a kind of a finished level before i even start working on the finished piece.
This process allows me to try new techniques and also gives me a chance to experience failure which is great!
I worked on this about like couple hours. And i am actually pretty happy with the outcome. For you people who is trying to understand my process here is a little bit of an insider view:
There are so many ways to execute a piece. There were about 10 different versions of the finished. The most important issue during creating a piece is taking a break from what you are doing and staying away from it. This allows you to clear your mind and make better judgement when it comes to color and composition. After making 1800 decisions per minute and considering different options that i have this is what i come up with. It is definetly not a finished piece of work but Every different version is a failure and even though I considered them as failures, actually they are not at all. They are the keystones for me to reach the end product. So yeah!
Today, really enjoyed listening to velvet underground and hazelnut flavored dunkin’ donuts coffee.
PS: My new neighbours are Goth people. I went to their house warming party last friday and it blew my mind in so many different levels. Two things about the party: 1- Belly dancer goth girl/woman? Does not make sense at all. 2- I thought people were over the whole black light thing, but apparently goths from virginia are not.
PPS: Growing a mustache these days. Started as a joke but now it is serious. Named my mustache ‘Fez’.
love,
