Yaz bitti ve kapılardan içeri girip iyi konserler izlemenin vakti geldi! Bant iş başında ve 2007’den beri süregelen, gelenekselleşmiş City Star Nights by Converse konser serimize 27 Ekim akşamı Indigo’da Jason Molina ve grubu Magnolia Electric Co. ile başlamanın heyecanındayız…

Uzun yıllardır üretken kimliği ve duygu yüklü besteleriyle gönüllere taht kurmuş saklı bir cevher olan Jason Molina ile 90’lı yıllarda başlattığı grubu Songs: Ohia aracılığıyla tanışmıştık. Sadeliğin gösterişini cesurca ortaya koyan vokalleri ve karanlık şarkı sözlerine yalın bir müzikal tavır eşlik ediyordu. Leonard Cohen ve Neil Young gibi babaların takipçisi olarak gösterilen üslûbunun dehâsı, onun sessizce ve derinden kendine sıkı bir hayran kitlesi edinmesine vesile olmuştu. Kimi zaman yalnızca bir gitar, kimi zaman ise ‘grup müziği’ olarak adlandırdığımız bir çeşitlilikle gelen tınılarıyla sık sık Will Oldham’ın Palace’ını anımsatan ve 90’lara özgü anti-folk geleneğiyle anılan Songs: Ohia’nın Secretly Canadian plak şirketiyle serpilen hikâyesine elini verip de kolunu kaptırmamak neredeyse imkânsız gibiydi. Molina, ‘rock’ hissiyatını daha yoğun olarak benimsediği “Magnolia Electric Co.” adlı albümünden sonra bu yönelime iyice ısındı ve 2003 senesi itibariyle grubunun adını Magnolia Electric Co. olarak değiştirdi ve dinleyicileriyle kurduğu ayinsel iletişimi bu kimlikle sürdürmeye başladı. Molina’nın sürekli yenilikler sunmanın peşine düşmekten ziyade, duygularını olduğu gibi gözler önüne seren tutarlı müzikal tavrı, benzer hislerde olan dinleyicileriyle iletişim kurmak adına ortak bir lisan konumunda. Son 10 küsur yılın en üretken müzisyenlerinden biri olmasının arkasında yatan sebeplerden biri de bu olsa gerek. Bu sebep, Magnolia Electric Co.’nun 27 Ekim akşamı Indigo’da sergileyeceği bu tarihi performansı neden kaçırmamanız gerektiğini de açıklıyor.

The summer’s over and it is time to go indoors and watch some good shows! Bant is on duty here and is very proud to present Jason Molina as Magnolia Electric Co. on Istanbul Indigo stage on 27 October 2009 as the starter of City Star Nights by Converse concert series that has been going since 2007.

Getting to know him and his highly prolific career through Songs: Ohia which he started in the 90’s, Jason Molina is one of the hidden heroes in independent songwriting. A plain musical attitude was accompanying the vocals that exhibit the vanity of the simpleness with dark lyrics. His strong language, that has been presented as the follower of big guys such as Leonard Cohen and Neil Young, easily afforded a loyal fanbase quietly, yet deeply. His tunes which sometimes come with a single guitar and sometimes with a “proper band sound” are reminiscent of Will Oldham’s Palace and crucial products of anti-folk tradition of the 90’s. Molina released an album wrapped heavily in rock in his own sense, named ‘Magnolia Electric Co.’ as Songs: Ohia and he started enjoying this slight turn and decided to name his band as Magnolia Electric Co. in 2003. His ritual communication with his listeners would keep on under this name from then on and it did. Molina is not someone who is after renewing his sound. Instead, he is someone who sticks to his own truth and consistent musical attitude. This attitude enables him to get to people who share similar emotions and create a mutual language. This is probably also the main reason why he is one of the most prolific songwriters of the last decade and why you shouldn’t miss Molina on stage as Magnolia Electric Co. on 27 October at Indigo.

Finally Bant’s 51st issue is out in stores! The cover of our new issue is a work by American artist Kevin Earl Taylor. Another important announcment is that, from now on Bant will be published bimonthly… So, the 51st issue will be in stores through out Janurary - Feburary, and our next issue will be published in March.
